A bomb disposal squad was called out to a Greater Manchester town to 'dispose of material' found at an address. A 74-year-old man has been arrested and released on bail.

Greater Manchester Police attended 'an address in the Whitefield area' of Bury in the early hours of Wednesday morning, November 15. A 74-year-old man was arrested 'as part of an ongoing police investigation', the force has said.

A bomb disposal unit was dispatched to 'assist with the safe removal and disposal of material found in the address', understood to have taken place in nearby Springwater Park. Police have said that there is no safety concern for the wider public.

A GMP spokesperson said: “In the early hours of yesterday morning (Wednesday 15 November 2023), Greater Manchester Police officers attended an address in the Whitefield area. A 74-year-old man who was arrested as part of an ongoing police investigation has since been released on bail.

"As a precautionary measure, EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) assisted with the safe removal and disposal of material found in the address. There is no safety concern for the wider public."
