A stretch of a main road in Bolton was cordoned off by police this morning after a woman was hit by a car.

Police officers and paramedics were called to Blackburn Road at around 7am. The woman was taken to hospital from the scene by paramedics.

She suffered serious injuries, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson confirmed. No arrests have been made at this stage.

A cordon was in place near the junction with Canning Street. Traffic was being diverted away from the area before it reopened just before 9am.

According to eyewitnesses, it is shut near Wyndsors and PK Foods, near the junction with Canning Street.
