Alvaro Fernandez

Youngster Alvaro Fernandez spent last season on loan with Preston and he enjoyed an excellent 12 months playing in the Championship, making 42 appearances and developing different aspects of his game.

Fernandez was assessed by Erik ten Hag in pre-season and he started in friendlies against Leeds, Lyon, Wrexham and Athletic Bilbao, but the decision was taken to send him out on loan to Granada CF.

Many supporters have wondered whether Fernandez was able to be recalled given the injuries at left-back, but he can only be brought back in the January window due to the loan release clause in his contract.

Fernandez has made three La Liga starts this term and he's been given just 371 minutes, but there have been glimmers of promise and his performance against Barcelona was excellent.

The 20-year-old should return from Spain at the end of the season as an even better player and he's got a bright future ahead, although it remains to be seen whether that's at Old Trafford.

Fernandez is playing in Spain.

Charlie McNeill

Charlie McNeill has outgrown academy football and he played for Newport County last season. His experience in League Two taught him about senior football and he's playing football in the division above this time around.

McNeill is currently at Stevenage Town, who are currently in fifth position in League One, but he's been left out of multiple matchday squads after initially featuring in the club's first few games of the season.

It's not yet clear whether McNeill's squad omissions have been for tactical reasons or if he's struggling with an injury. He scored on his first appearance for Stevenage and his loan spell has faded since then.

United are likely to recall McNeill in January if he's fit and available and continuing to struggle for minutes.

Brandon Williams

Brandon Williams is contracted at United until the summer of 2024, with the option of another year, and that's expected to be triggered so the club can receive a transfer fee for the player in the summer.

It once looked like Williams could contribute to the first-team squad at United, but the academy graduate failed to establish himself and he's found a new lease of life with Ipswich Town in the Championship.

Ipswich are flying in the Championship with former United coach Kieran McKenna in charge and Williams' pre-existing relationship with the Northern Irishman was key in the loan move.

McKenna recently said about Williams: “He’s getting back towards the levels that I know he’s capable of, but I think more importantly it’s about pushing him past those levels because he’s young and hopefully he’s got some good years in his career and big moments ahead of him.

“We’re happy to have him here, he knows he’s got a lot of work still to do but I think it’s been a few weeks that he’ll take a lot of confidence from to continue working hard."

Will Fish

Will Fish has represented England through various youth ages and he was given his first-team United debut against Wolves in May 2021 by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but his future appears to be away from United.

The centre-back is currently on his third loan away from the club and he's made 21 appearances for Hibernian in the SPL this term.

Fish starts each week for Hibs and it's thought he could relocate there permanently after his second loan in Edinburgh.

Mason Greenwood

United concluded their six-and-a-half-month investigation into Mason Greenwood in August and the club announced that 'it would be most appropriate for him' to continue his career away from Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old then joined Getafe on loan and 4,000 fans attended his unveiling along with another two new summer signings.

Greenwood has scored three goals in 10 appearances this season, while he's also recorded three assists.
