A man was taken hospital after being beaten with a metal bar in a vicious, early hours street attack. Police say the victim, who is in his 40s, was left with lacerations to his leg and both arms.

Three men - aged 29, 29 and 54 - were arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault. They remained in custody for questioning on Saturday afternoon (November 11).

The attack happened at around 3.55am on Bury New Road and High Street in Heywood, Greater Manchester Police said.

The victim's injuries were described as 'non-life threatening'. Police say the investigation is ongoing and have appealed for witnesses.

Officers were seen at the scene at lunchtime on Saturday, with tape still in place. A window at a property appeared to have been smashed, with shards of glass littering the pavement below.
