A pedestrian is in hospital tonight after being hit by a car on a busy Tameside road.
Manchester Road in Audenshaw was closed by cops at around 6pm on Monday evening (November 20) around the Snipe Retail Park. The closure extended from Snipe Way to Park Road, only on the eastbound side of the road, heading into Manchester.
Bus services — the 7 and 216 — were also diverted during the closure. It was confirmed at 9pm that one person was taken to hospital, with eyewitnesses reporting that a woman had been struck by a red Mercedes.

“One person was conveyed to hospital by NWAS paramedics,” a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said.
They added: “At around 6.30pm (on Monday, 20 November), one fire engine from Ashton was called to attend a road traffic collision between a car and a person on Manchester Road, Audenshaw. “Our crews arrived quickly at the scene and worked with North West Ambulance to make the area safe before departing after approximately 20 minutes.”
The extent of the injuries is unknown, according to cops. However, it’s understood the GMP serious collision investigation unit was called to probe the incident further.
"Enquiries are ongoing at this time to determine the extent of the injuries sustained, with other emergency services at the scene to provide further specialist support and treatment,” Greater Manchester Police added in a statement. "As a result, road closures are expected to continue, and drivers are asked to find alternative routes this evening."
Photos from the scene show damage to a red Mercedes, and debris scattered in the road. Four police vehicles were in attendance an hour after the collision.
