Terrifying footage shows a group of teenagers 'turning the streets of Tameside into a battlefield' as they appear to throw fireworks at each other. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the group on Portland Street North in Ashton-under-Lyne on Sunday night (November 5) at around 6:30pm.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, one said the 'shocking' behaviour seen in the footage happens every year around Bonfire Night.

The footage appears to show a number of young people dressed in black launching fireworks over the street and at each other. Council bosses called the incident 'unacceptable' and urged witnesses to report similar incidents to the police.

The witness, who asked not to be named, said there were 'rockets firing' near him and his young son as he walked on Portland Street North on Sunday evening, and accused the teenagers of 'turning the streets of Tameside into a battlefield'.

One eyewitness called the footage 'shocking'

A Tameside Council spokesperson said: “We work with police and partners as part of the Tameside Community Safety Partnership to tackle crime and disorder and create safer communities.

"In particular, we have worked with partners on the Greater Manchester wide bonfire safety campaign, which undertakes a multi-agency approach to preventing, tackling and protecting against bonfire and firework injuries, anti-social behaviour and criminal damage during the Halloween and bonfire period.

"This kind of behaviour is unacceptable and anyone who witnesses incidents such as this should report them to the police.”

Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for comment.
