A wine-fuelled woman grabbed a knife during a heated row with her ex-partner and stabbed him multiple times in his own home. Eleanor Davies, 34, armed herself after the pair became embroiled in a verbal altercation at his flat in Stockport.

She said she was acting in 'self defence' and claimed her ex had been violent towards her before. The man suffered two 'very serious and significant wounds' after being knifed, Minshull Street Crown Court heard.

After spending four months in Styal prison, Davies is due to be released. Prosecutors told how the pair had 'at one stage' been in a relationship.

Davies turned up at her ex's flat in Lancashire Hill at about 10pm on July 20. He was said to have been 'annoyed' that she gained entry after being let in via the intercom by a neighbour, rather than calling him, prosecutor Tom Farr said.

Davies, who had been drinking wine, claimed her ex began shouting and alleged that he threatened to assault her. She claimed he had been violent before and was 'trying to get away'. Davies armed herself with a knife and inflicted multiple wounds during the confrontation.

She said she had acted in 'excessive self defence'. Defending, Isobel Thomas said that Davies had turned to drink 'to block out her pain' following the death of her long term partner in 2021.

She said Davies had worked in 'responsible' jobs in shops and a casino previously and is 'determined' to rehabilitate herself. "It definitely has been a wake-up call for her," Ms Thomas said of Davies' spell in prison.

"It is fair to say she is desperate to be released and turn her life around." Ms Thomas said Davies has accommodation, but that it would be lost if she didn't return there by January.

Sentencing, Recorder Geoffrey Lowe told Davies: "You had, you say, been the subject of violence from him before. He was annoyed that evening. You thought he was going to assault you, you armed yourself with a knife."

The judge said he was persuaded to avoid keeping Davies in prison longer as he believed she was capable of being rehabilitated. He said: "This is the best way of protecting society from further offending in this case."

Davies, of Lancashire Hill, Heaton Norris, pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding. She was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work, and 25 rehabilitation activity requirement days.
